Nestled in the coastal suburb of Bokarina on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, The Rising Sun Residence is an elegantly understated sanctuary of luxurious coastal living, infused with natural light, gentle breezes, and tranquillity. Positioned along serene waterways, the design engages sensitively with its setting to foster curiosity, reflection, and calm.

From the street, the home appears as a sculptural form, designed to intrigue and gradually reveal itself. Off-form concrete entry portals, inspired by the arc of a rising sun, greet visitors. Timber gates open to a cobblestone motor court framed by warm timber-clad garages and lush greenery.

Beyond, an arched glass entry leads to a tranquil courtyard, shifting the focus from arrival to immersion. Two distinct wings pivot around this courtyard and the pool: one containing sunlit living, dining, kitchen, and service areas oriented northeast for light and connection; the other housing bedrooms, a study, and a flexible living space, each with views of gardens, pool, or waterway.

Bridging the wings, the upper-level primary suite serves as an intimate retreat, its ensuite opening to a secluded garden and indoor-outdoor shower. A curving path flows around the upper level to a spiral staircase, creating multiple pathways and a sense of freedom.

Beneath, the undercroft offers sophisticated outdoor living with lounge and dining areas, a timber fireplace, and direct access to the pool. Materiality blends monolithic concrete with greenery and refined timber, while generous eaves provide shade and shelter.

Rising Sun Residence balances robustness with delicacy, delivering a coastal haven shaped by light, landscape, and layered spaces—embodying Reitsma & Associates’ commitment to architecture that resonates emotionally and celebrates contemporary coastal living.
